Measuring force is not just about knowing "strong or weak," but is a crucial element in engineering and manufacturing for four main reasons:
- Quality Assurance (QC/QA): Check that the product functions as designed. For example, phone buttons shouldn't be too stiff, and bottle caps should be tight enough but still openable by hand.
- Safety: Determine the fracture, breakage, or deformation limits of a material. For example, seat belts, lifting hooks, or gas cylinder casings must withstand extremely high impact forces without failing to protect lives.
- Compliance: Many industries are required to meet international standards, such as ISO, ASTM, JISWithout accurate force measurement data, the product cannot be exported or sold.
- Design optimization (R&D): It helps engineers choose the most suitable materials—sufficiently durable but not too expensive or too heavy—thereby reducing manufacturing costs.

To build a complete Imada motorized force measurement system, you need to provide the following five key pieces of information:
1. Force Requirement Specifications
- Expected maximum force: What load are you intending to measure the material can withstand (e.g., 50N, 500N, or 2500N)?
- Principle: Choose a machine with a load capacity approximately 1.2–1.5 times the expected force to protect the sensor.
- Type of impact: Do you only measure tension, only measure compression, or both (Tension – Compression rotation)?

2. Sample Details
- Shape & Size: Sheet, wire, electronic component, or bottle form? (To choose) Clamp/Grip Fit).
- Elongation: When pulled, does the sample stretch significantly? (To choose) Journey – Stroke (of the length of the base).
- Material: Is it hard and brittle (easily broken) or soft and elastic (easily slips out of the grip)?

3. Speed and Cycle Requirements (Motion Control)
- Speed of movement: What fixed speed (mm/min) do you need to measure at? (For example, ASTM standards typically require 12.5 mm/min or 50 mm/min).
- Measurement mode:
- Continue measuring until the sample breaks/fractures, then stop.
- Compress to a certain force and then hold it there.
- How many times should the cycle test be run repeatedly?
4. Data Output
- Just the Peak number: Only take the maximum force value displayed on the screen.
- We need a graph: Software is needed to plot graphs of Force Variation over Time or Force versus Distance.
- Peripheral connections: Is it necessary to export the data to Excel, a receipt printer, or integrate it into an automated production line?
5. Applicable Standards
- Does the system need to comply with any specific international standards (ISO, ASTM, JIS, DIN, etc.)? These standards often have very strict regulations regarding speed and type of clamp.
To select an accurate Imada force measurement system, you need to combine four components based on the following principles: Force measurement – Space – Test target.
A complete Imada tensile and compression testing system typically includes four main components that work together to ensure the accuracy and repeatability of the measurements:

- Measuring instrument: Current ZTA (Premium, versatile connectivity).
- Base: Current MX2 (Automatic, programmable route).
- Software: Force Recorder Standard/Next (Professional graphing).
- CB-528 Data Transmission Communication Cable; Jigs Set
Force Gauge: This is the central device that displays the force value.
- Digital line: Popular as Imada ZTS Series (premium, 2000Hz sampling rate) or Imada DST/DSV (standards, economics).
- Mechanical flow: Like Imada PS/FB SeriesDurable, battery-free, suitable for simple measurements.
- Accessories included with the machine: Typically includes a carrying case, a charger (for electronic chargers), and standard probe set (pulling hooks, flat compression heads, conical heads, chisel heads, slotted heads, and extension rods).

Test Stand: Helps to stabilize the measuring device and move it at a steady speed, eliminating errors caused by manual manipulation.
- Manual base: Use a hand crank or lever, suitable for quick testing.
- Motorized base: Allows for setting a fixed travel speed, which is extremely important for compliance with ISO/ASTM standards.

Attachments and GripsDepending on the shape of the sample, you need to choose the appropriate clamp to hold the sample securely.
- Measuring length: Vise grips are used for flat materials, hook grips for ropes, or wedge grips for materials that tend to slip.
- Compression measurement: Flat compression plates are available in various sizes, or spherical compression heads.

4. Connectivity Accessories and Software (Cables & Software)
- Connection cable: A USB cable is used to transfer data to a computer, or a control cable is used to connect the meter to the power stand (which automatically stops the meter in case of overload or sample breakage).
- Software: It helps to plot force versus time/distance graphs and generate reports.
